I have to say, I went into this movie with a fair degree of trepidation, after being fairly underwhelmed by the Captain America and Thor films. Knowing that Joss Whedon was at the helm certainly made me a little more hopeful, but my default position regarding Marvel films has been "expect the worst" for so long that it's hard to shake the habit.
Nonetheless, The Avengers was actually an excellent film! I really felt like they just nailed it on so many levels, and the best thing about it was how strong Whedon made all the characters in the film. I was also pleasantly surprised by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Robert Downey Jr puts in a rock solid performance as Tony Stark as always, but doesn't steal the show.
If you haven't seen the film, I'd recommend it. If you have, what are your thoughts. It goes without saying that this should be spoiler free.
